3 Trinis endure 100-mile ENDURrun in Canada

Three Trinidadian long distance runners are about to embark on what is called the ‘Tour de France’ of Running. The ENDURrun in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

From Sunday August 10-17th, over eight days, the 6-year old event tests runners over varying distances and terrain. The three locals taking part for the first time are, Victorio Hawkins, Alfred Patrick and John Lum Young of the T&T Road Runners Club. They are the only foreigners among the 30 entrants, all others being North Americans.

Gomes runs 60 miles for charity

Edward Ricaldo Gomes completed a solo 60-mile run to raise funds for charity last month

Gomes' long trek took him 12 hours and 20 minutes to complete. The course began from Arima onto Sangre Grande before proceeding to the junction of Old Valencia and Toco roads. Gomes returned to Sangre Grande then ran to Powder Magazine in Cocorite, before turning back to the Queen's Park Savannah for the finish.

Trini trio fly the flag at Houston Marathon

It was dark and cold, the temperature a mere 7ºC - pretty cold for the Trini team, who had left a piping hot 31ºC less than 48 hours before. The only comfort they had was the weatherman's prediction of "zero per cent chance of rain". Freezing showers would mean additional worries.

The Trinis - Victorio, Alfred and John - lined up in their assigned wave outside Minute Maid Park, awaiting the 7am start of the Chevron Houston Marathon. They had elected not to warm up before the start, preferring to stay inside the George R. Brown Convention Centre, away from the cold wind. They would warm up during the race instead.
